MONDAY FUNDAY – March 11, 2019

March 11, 2019 Jane the Raincity Librarian 9 comments

monday-1-copy

It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date, and adapted by Kellee at Unleashing Readers and Jen at Teach Mentor Texts with a children’s/YA focus. The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. These weekly roundups are a great way to discover new blogs and bloggers, share some of the titles you’ve been enjoying, and add to your ever-growing to-read list.

Hello, friends! I’m starting off this week with an exciting announcement – the fantastic Michelle @ Fab Book Reviews (a fellow Canadian librarian) is hosting a giveaway for my new picture book Queenie Quail Can’t Keep Up and in an exciting twist it’s only open to Canadian readers! So, my fellow Canadian book lovers, head on over to Michelle’s blog and enter to win your very own copy! A big thanks to Michelle for hosting this review.

And now, on to the reviews! Here are a few books I’ve discovered this week.

Counting Dinos – Eric Pinder

Follow along with a group of adorably colourful dinosaurs as they count to five in this sweet rhyming picture book that will undoubtedly appeal to tiny palaeontologists. I particularly love the bright, bold colours, which are really eye-catching.

Eat Pete! – Michael Rex

When a monster shows up to Pete’s house, Pete is thrilled, and can’t wait to play with his new friend. The monster has something else on his mind, though – he doesn’t want to play with Pete, he wants to eat Pete! When he does (in a sudden move that caused my preschoolers to gasp), he immediately regrets his action – it turns out that playing with a friend is much more fun than eating him. Cute, silly, and pretty hysterical, at least according to my preschool audience!

Mad, Mad, Bear! – Kimberly Gee

Bear is mad. Very, very mad. He had to leave the park for naptime. He fell and got an owie. And he can’t bring his boots or stick inside the house. It’s not FAIR, and Bear is MAD. How will he deal with this angry feeling? This picture book is absolutely wonderful – the pictures are beyond adorable, the text is perfectly spare, and Bear’s meltdown will resonate with anyone who has cared for or worked with toddlers. This one is a real winner.

So there you have it, three very sweet picture books I’ve discovered this week. What have you been reading?

Fear not, a little birdie has told me that there’s going to be a US giveaway on another blog sometime in the future, so keep your eyes peeled! 😉

These are all great picture books! I had a child order Counting Dinos from the Scholastic book order and we are looking forward to checking that out. I hope I get to purchase Mad, Mad Bear soon too. I wonder if it would pair well with Horrible Bear. That is a fave in my library.
