MONDAY FUNDAY – Sept 5, 2016

September 5, 2016April 16, 2017 Jane the Raincity Librarian Post a comment

It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date, and adapted by Kellee at Unleashing Readers and Jen at Teach Mentor Texts with a children’s/YA focus. The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. These weekly roundups are a great way to discover new blogs and bloggers, share titles, and add to your ever-growing to-read list.

HAPPY LABOUR DAY LONG WEEKEND AND WELCOME TO SEPTEMBER!

I love September. Don’t get me wrong, I love summer, but there’s something so refreshing and invigorating about the coming of fall. The crisp air, the changing colours (the endless, endless rain….) that makes me think of fresh starts and new beginnings.

This week I shared a few books, as well as some other (hopefully) interesting bits and pieces.

I wrote about one of my favourite local bookstores, the fantastic Russell Books in Victoria, B.C. This institution is the largest new and used bookstore in Canada, and its beautiful, well-organized shelves are what book blogger dreams are made of.

I shared the exciting news that the #diversekidslit book sharing meme is now on Pinterest! Be sure to check out our Pinterest board for exciting and inspiring books and information.

I participated in another edition of Nonfiction Wednesday with a beautifully-photographed title that introduces children to food production, and helps develop a generation of informed, healthy consumers.

Over on The Book Wars I wrapped up Australia month with the charming rhyming picture book Edward the Emu. It’s a “the grass is always greener” story with a twist, and how often do you get to read about an emu, anyway?

audrey

Finally, I continued my Reading Staycation series with a Audrey (cow), the charming story of a plucky cow’s bid for freedom.

All in all, a pretty good reading week! 🙂

I hope everyone is having a safe and happy long weekend!

Oh dear, I don’t think I could handle warm weather all year ’round, I wilt in the summer and crave sweaters and hot chocolate! 🙂 I could do without all the rain, though… 😉

You have been very busy Jane. I enjoy autumn, but I’m not really enjoying this cold weather after that glorious heat! Audrey Cow is on my list of must reads, but I haven’t found time to get to it. I have to fix this!

It’s such a sweet book, I highly recommend it, though perhaps not before a steak dinner…..*feeling guilty*!

Happy September! I agree, I’ll miss summer but I love fall too and the change of season/ cooler temps will be welcome. Plus all the colors. That looks like a great bookstore, I think I could probably spend all day in there! Love the bookshelf pic!

It helps that I’m only working part-time at the moment, so I’ve got plenty of time to read and write! 🙂

I love finding new bookstores to explore! We went to one by us earlier this summer but I think I’m due for a trip sans kids!

    Have a great week!

Me too, I love wandering the shelves of bookstores, and supporting people who are living their dreams as small business owners and book lovers.

I imagine fall comes earlier for you than for us down here on the Gulf Coast of Texas, but I’m happy for you. I tried to request the books you shared but as usual it takes time for these books to make their way to us. Much like the fall.

Funnily enough, I get the same problem with American books – I see them appearing on all the blog, but they don’t come to Canada until ages afterwards, I get so impatient!! 🙂

Despite the fact that I used to live in the Pacific NW, I have only been to Victoria once. But while I was there, I spent a day doing the bookstore circuit. I had a great time.

Thanks again for visiting my blog.

I’m always looking for interesting books by Australian authors for my grandchildren. Edward the Emu is one I’ve not come across before and I’m sure they will enjoy it!
