In my role as a “middle years” children’s librarian I typically develop and facilitate programs for school-age kids, but this week I had the opportunity to cover a baby story time program for a colleague, and it was an absolute delight! I stuck to my tried, tested and true basic baby storytime plan, and while some of the older babies weren’t quite sure what to make of me at first, I’d like to think I won them over by the end of the storytime.
Hello Song: Hello, friends!
Wake Up Songs + Tickles: Wake Up Feet! / Eyes, Nose, Cheeky Cheeky Chin
Book 1: Bear Has a Belly

Bounces: Have You Ever Seen a Baby? / A Hippopotamus Got On a City Bus
Book 2: Bottoms Up!

Movement Songs: London Bridge is Falling Down / Zoom, Zoom, Zoom / The Elevator Song
Cool Down Song: Rain is Falling Down
Goodbye Song: Goodbye, friends!
I highly recommend that newer library staffers create a basic outline that they can pull out of their back pocket at a moment’s notice, it’s a real confidence booster knowing you can deliver a great story time on a moment’s notice!
