I officially have a new reader in the family – my son can now read independently, with some assistance for unusual words, of course (you never realize quite how ridiculous English pronunciation is until you’re watching someone learn to read!).
This unlocked achievement means his appetite for books has only grown, as has my gratitude for public libraries, as feeding his voracious hunger for new reading material would be impossible without them!

We’ve recently burned through the Pizza and Taco series of beginner graphic novels. These books are seriously silly – Pizza and Taco are two ordinary elementary school best friends getting up to the usual kid hi-jinks, except for the fact that they’re sentient food items, of course! The humour has serious kid-appeal, and the accessible text helps build reader confidence. There’s nine books in the serious so far, and we’ve just finished the most recent one, so we’ll have to move on to a new series, at least until they come out with a new title!
If you know of any funny junior graphic novel series that might appeal to a six year old, please let me know, I need all the recommendations I can get!
Have a great week, everyone – and if you’re Canadian, VOTE VOTE VOTE!!!
