New (To Me) Baby Storytime Favourites

August 21, 2018June 2, 2023 Jane the Raincity Librarian 2 comments

Our summer babytime sessions have come to a close, so I thought I’d take a moment to share, in no particular order, a few of the new-to-me books I’ve been using recently with the families at my programs. Enjoy!

Hello Lamb – Jane Cabrera

Each page in this adorable board book features a different sweet animal’s face, and children are encouraged to say hello to each baby animal, and to make the corresponding animal sound. Very sweet, and a great choice for toddlers, too!

Goodnight Bear – Jane Cabrera

What a lovely bedtime book! This would be perfect for a PJ storytime with a younger crowd. This time children say goodnight to each animal, and whereas Hello Lamb featured farm animals, Goodnight Bear is all about beautiful woodland creatures. Oh how I adore Jane Cabrera!

Ears

Part of a series of board books, Ears encourages little ones to guess the owner of each set of ears. The photographs are stunning, and have fascinated all of the little ones at my programs.

Peek-A-Boo Zoo! – Jane Cabrera

Another title from Jane Cabrera! This title is short on words and big on sweet illustrations and bouncy rhythm. I love books that have repetitive refrains that caregivers can chant along with me.

Rainbow – Jane Cabrera

I swear I don’t only read Jane Cabrera books, but she has recently come out with some lovely concept books that I really do love. Rainbow is a rainbow primer that showcases different items that come in the different colours of the rainbow.

Have you read any of these great baby books? What are some of your favourite books to share with your littlest readers?

Jane Cabrera’s books are PERFECT for baby storytimes! I haven’t seen the Rainbow: A Book of Colors one before- I will have to track that one down, it looks adorable. The ‘Ears’ book looks wonderful as well- another new-to-me one! Mary Murphy’s are sweet, as are Emma Dodd’s shorter ones, A Book of Babies by Il Sung Na is lovely as well, Nicola Smee’s Clip-Clop, Tuck Me In by Dean Hacohen, Leslie Patricelli’s board books, Nina Laden’s board books, so many!! 🙂
