Poetry Friday: May the 4th Be With You

May 4, 2018 Jane the Raincity Librarian 16 comments

poetry-1

May the 4th is Star Wars Day, and to celebrate, I’ve written a small limerick in honour of my very favourite Star Wars character, the suave, roguish, handsome pilot Han Solo, played with limitless charm by Harrison Ford.

There once was a pilot named Han,

A charming and handsome young man,

I saw him on screen,

When I was a tween,

And now I’m a big Star Wars fan!

Now, I’ve taken a bit of creative liberty here – I’m not really a massive Star Wars fan (I do definitely enjoy the films, but I’m not that knowledgeable about the series), but I certainly am a gigantic Harrison Ford fan!

To celebrate Star Wars day with my young patrons I’ve got some fun Star Wars activities planned for the library – we’ll be doing a Star Wars scavenger hunt, and making Star Wars bookmarks! As a librarian I will take advantage of any opportunity to get kids hooked on reading, especially if it means I get to celebrate Han Solo while I’m at it.

Are you a Star Wars fan? Who’s your favourite character?

Happy Friday!

I love your limerick Jane! I don’t know if I have a fave character but I loved the scene in the original film in the bar https://youtu.be/Lfy5Esue_ls Your activities sound wonderful, May The 4th Be With You, thanks!

Haha. Well – I couldn’t write a Star Wars limerick if I tried. Even as a kid, I never watched the movie from start to finish *Gasp* and I certainly wouldn’t know who was who. But I can appreciate all the fan-fare on May the fourth. 🙂

Sounds like you will be having fun today! My favorite character when the movie came out was probably Luke, with R2D2 coming in second.

Happy SW day!! Fun limerick. 🙂 My fave character is Chewie — he’s the most bear-like . . .

May the 4th be with you, Jane. I am excited about the new Star Wars movie. I woke this morning to Good Morning America’s interview with Ron Howard and his parade of characters all suited up. I am sure that your students are going to be excited with the activities you planned.

It is fun that you’re doing some things at the library for Star Wars. My favorite is still Chewbacca. Love the limerick, Jane.

I’m sure your Star Wars activities will be a big hit with your young patrons. Coolest librarian ever! I’ve only ever seen one or two of the movies, so while I know who Han Solo is, I’m at a bit of a loss with most Star Wars trivia. Fun limerick 🙂

I’m not a Star Wars fan, at all, but when I hear about all that you are doing, I feel guilty that I didn’t celebrate with my middle schoolers today. I hope you had fun!

I’m not a huge fan, but it was fun at work today seeing people dressed up!

I love the newer movies, with female heroes and clones breaking free of expectations.

Such a fun limerick, Jane. I’m not a Star Wars fan, but I have used Yoda’s lines to teach the inverted sentence.

I feel like you do about both Star Wars and Harrison Ford. I used to have a huge crush, as your photo reminded me. He would be the reason I’d watch Star Wars.

Happy 4th…even though it’s the 6th now. (Funny how time does that…)

I love Star Wars and the activities planned sound like a lot of fun – especially making some bookmarks. Hope the kids had fun! Chewie is probably my favourite character 🙂

Nicely done! I also loved Han Solo back in the day. Hahaha. Although they do have new ones now (Oscar Isaac for one) that are more my speed. 🙂
