Friday Favourites – September 4, 2015

September 4, 2015April 18, 2017 Jane the Raincity Librarian Post a comment

Here are just a few of the different people, places and things I’ve been loving this week:

Kendra’s “Meet the Art! Jackson Pollock” program over at Read, Sing, Play looks amazing. I don’t know if I’d be brave enough to attempt an art program like this (oh the mess!) but I am always a fan of encouraging children to express their individual creativity through art.

Kayley at KayleyDraws is the talented artist behind my beautiful new blog header. Kayley took my vague ideas and turned them into an adorable work of art. I can’t recommend her enough!

This adorable Alice im Wunderland t-shirt from Out of Print is the newest addition to my growing book-themed t-shirt collection. I’m not addicted to these t-shirts, I swear I can stop at any time……

Have you ever wondered how air conditioning was invented, or why we put chlorine in our drinking water? If you’re a history fanatic like me, you’ll devour How We Got to Now, an addictive six-part PBS miniseries (hosted by one of my favourite nonfiction writers), which is available on Netflix.

Carrie Gelson at There’s a Book for That writes beautifully about building a “literary nest” in her classroom, and gently fostering a love of reading in her young students.

Tetley British Blend is just about the best black tea I have ever enjoyed. These tea bags produce a bold cuppa – not for the faint-of-heart, but perfect for anyone who loves a dark, invigorating brew, perfect with a splash of milk (and sugar, if you’re so inclined). The downside? It’s not available in Canada. Thankfully I have a few American friends who are able to help me feed my black tea addiction.

With a newly-updated kitchen (goodbye, 1980s-era appliances!), I’m dying to try my hand at some new baking recipes. I’ve become somewhat addicted to the youtube videos of baker and shop-owner Jemma of Cupcake Jemma – I’m thinking these Earl Grey cupcakes would go down a treat at the office.

boundless

I’ve just started Kenneth Oppel’s sweeping railroad adventure The Boundless, and it’s just as exciting and action-packed as you would expect from this award-winning, kid-favourite Canadian author.

So, what have you been loving this week? Let me know in the comments below!
