The patron whipped real cream in an whipped cream maker in our staff room, and layered the fresh cream on the pie with the blueberries, coconuts and dark chocolate chips. When we asked what the occasion was, he said he just wanted to thank everyone at the library for all their help and kindness. He even wrote us a beautiful letter expressing his thanks and appreciation for the wonderful work that we do. How sweet is that! Obviously the work we do is its own reward and we never expect to receive any sort of thanks, and certainly not gifts, but when someone goes out of their way to do something so sweet and unexpected for our staff, we can’t help but be deeply touched.
