I’ve been doing plenty of reading and writing in the past two weeks!
August is Australia month over on The Book Wars, so I’ve been catching up on some fantastic picture books by Australian authors – so far I’ve written about Graeme Base’s visually stunning alphabet book Animalia and Jackie French’s charming Diary of a Wombat, and I’ll have plenty of other posts coming up during the month. Make sure to follow The Book Wars if you’re not already – there are great bookish posts popping up all the time!
Inspired by a recent trip to Vancouver Island I’ve launched a new series on my blog called Beautiful British Columbia : A Reading Staycation, where I’ll be sharing children’s books from British Columbian authors/illustrators! I’m so excited to share some local children’s literature with everyone, and celebrate my beautiful home province. I started with one of my favourite series, Binky the Space Cat – be sure to check back during the month for more great Canadian books!
Finally, we had another round of #diversekidslit in the children’s lit world, and there’s still time to add your diverse children’s book posts to the link up and check out all the inspiring and amazing posts.

Thanks for stopping by! I was actually surprised by all the talent that comes out of my home province (don’t tell anybody but I was actually born in Ontario – thankfully my parents had to good sense to move us out west, ha!)

Aren’t books just the best? It’s like you can travel the world without leaving your chair – though at the moment leaving the wet coast sounds pretty appealing, it’s just chucking it down with rain today, UGH…
We did a list of books from other countries, and I was surprised to realize how few Australian books I’ve read–I look forward to hearing about some good ones

I never normally take note of where an author’s from – to be honest, I can rarely even remember the names of authors, I just focus on the book itself, so this has been a very interesting experience. Turns out I was reading a bunch of Australian picture book authors without even realizing it!
I love that you are focussing on BC titles (being another Vancouverite) but also LOVE Australia authors and illustrators!

Australia month sounds great – I have fallen in love with their pushing-the-boundary kind of books for children – and yay too for BC picturebook makers!
SOOO much of the books available here are American, so it’s nice to branch out and get different perspectives, too!
