MONDAY FUNDAY – May 16, 2016

May 16, 2016April 19, 2017 Jane the Raincity Librarian Post a comment

It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date, and adapted by Kellee at Unleashing Readers and Jen at Teach Mentor Texts with a children’s/YA focus. This weekly roundup is a great way to discover new blogs and bloggers, share recommended (or not so recommended….) titles, and add to your ever-growing to-read list.

My House

My name is Jane, and I love cats, so it was pretty much inevitable that I would love this vibrant, colourful picture book.

house2

A friendly little cat named Jim takes readers on a tour of his house, using simple, friendly text and delightful illustrations. Definitely worth taking a look at, even if you’re not a cat lady named Jane. 🙂

The Snow Rabbit

Wow.

This wordless picture book is simply stunning. The paper cut illustrations are miniature works of art, subtle, elegant and evocative. Two sisters explore the wintery world outside their door, encountering a mysterious and magical snow rabbit. Perhaps not the most suitable book for this time of year (it’s already getting toasty here!), but just too beautiful not to explore and share.

Lord Edgware Dies

I quite enjoyed this classic Poirot mystery, which featured a twist ending that I honestly didn’t see coming. The most interesting part of the novel, however, wasn’t written by Ms. Christie at all, but rather by a mysterious editor armed with a pencil. All throughout the book a previous reader left little corrections, pointing out a typo here, a word choice error there. Fascinating that someone would even bother to go to all the hassle. Were they trying to improve the reading experience for the next borrower, or did they simply want to prove they could one-up Agatha Christie in the writing department? We may never know. At least they made their notations in pencil and not red ink….

Hope you’ve all been having a great reading week!!

The Snow Rabbit looks like a beautiful book. I will have to look for it. I absolutely love Agatha Christie books. I read almost all of them as a teenager. Poirot is a fun character. Have a great reading week!

Yes, Poirot was always my favourite character too, I devoured the books as a teenager. 🙂

I love the picture books. Of all books, picture books are probably my favorite.

Love hearing about those ‘notes’ in the Christie book. And both books look sweet, but especially that Snow Rabbit. Wow, the cover is beautiful. Thanks, Jane.

It’s one of the things I love (and sometimes don’t love….)about using the library, you never quite know what you’ll find when you open a book! 😉

Those editing marks are hilarious! So funny those got in there!
I liked the illustrations in Snow Rabbit more than the story. The pictures really were gorgeous.

Yes, this reader was both observant and persistent, so funny that they corrected word choice as well as grammar and typos!

I can’t wait to read The Snow Rabbit. And I am also an Agatha Christie fan, but what an odd book you read. Hopefully, the person who marked it up did it to improve your reading experience.

Yes, it was quite a curious experience, a bit like a treasure hunt, trying to find all the notations!

The Snow Rabbit looks gorgeous! I think I am going to have to add that to our reading list! And I read Agatha Christie for the first time this year – And Then There Were None. I loved it and have been wanting to read more by her. Perhaps I will give this one a go, although I will not get this meaningfully marked up version. 🙂

I was a huge fan of Agatha Christie as a teenager, and I grew up watching David Suchet on PBS as Poirot, the best Poirot of all, if you ask me. 🙂

My House looks so cute, I have a soft spot for cats so I think I’d like that one too. Looks like a sweet kids book too. The colorful cover is a winner! And I’d like to read more Christie- I’ve dabbled a bit but not in any serious way. I think it’s funny how someone decided to do some creative editing! 🙂

As a teenager I was OBSESSED with Agatha Christie, but only Poirot, so I’ve been dabbling in her other works as an adult.

I have ordered The Snow Rabbit from my library. It looks like a beautiful picture book. Who knows – with the weather we’ve been having here lately, it might still be seasonally appropriate!
