Top Ten Tuesday: Honorific!

I haven’t participated in one of these list-based blog challenges in years now, but it’s summer, and I felt like writing something a little lighthearted. The theme of this week’s challenge piqued my interest –

Books with Honorifics in the Title (“…an honorific is a form of address conveying esteem, courtesy or respect. These can be titles prefixing a person’s name, e.g.: Mr., Mrs., Miss, Ms., Mx., Sir, Dame, Dr., Cllr, Lady, or Lord, or other titles or positions that can appear as a form of address without the person’s name, as in Mr. President, General, Captain, Father, Doctor, or Earl.” For more info, click here.) Could I find ten children’s books that met this very specific criteria? Let’s see how well I did!

Going into this challenge, I wasn’t sure how many books with honorifics in the title I’d be able to find. What I hadn’t anticipated was the sheer volume of children books written about special teachers. Because of this plethora of teacher-themed literature, the challenge turned out to be a real walk in the park! I stopped at nine titles because I liked the way the book covers looked in a photo collage, but I could have easily gone on – there are so many books with Mr., Ms., Miss or Mrs. in the title, representing different teachers who’ve shaped the lives of their students.

Patricia Polacco’s books about teachers have always had a special place in my heart – the way she writes about the impact educators and special adults can have on the children they work with is deeply moving. I also remember reading Dear Mr. Henshaw and Miss Nelson is Missing! as a child, while the others are more recent titles that I haven’t had a chance to read yet.

Were you able to find ten (or more) books with honorifics in the title? Classics like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde or The Island of Dr. Moreau immediately spring to mind! I’m curious to see what everyone found this week!
