It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?

Well, this was certainly a Christmas for the books. We made the best of it, but I’ll be very happy if I don’t see another Christmas like it in a hurry. I do hope that if you celebrated Christmas this year you were able to find some joy amidst all the strangeness!

My little bookworm made off like a bandit this year, with both mummy and Grandma spoiling him with heaps of books. Books do make the best gifts, after all! And of course we’ve been reading them on repeat the past few days.

Here are the two books that I picked up for him – I nabbed them both on sale at one of my favourite local bookstores, Book Warehouse on Main Street in Vancouver. I’m quite the bargain hunter and frugal shopper. which means I’m always keeping my eyes open for sales. I’m definitely one of those people that buys gifts throughout the year and stashes them for birthdays and Christmas. I don’t think that you should feel obligated to spend a lot of money on gifts, especially in a year when so many of us are facing financial insecurity, and keeping an eye open for sales and coupons can really make all the difference. Being a frugal shopper can sometimes feel like a part-time job, but the rewards can be so worth it when you find the perfect gifts at a price that doesn’t make your wallet cry.

Noisy Trucks – Much to our amusement, since neither mummy nor daddy ever encouraged it, our toddler is absolutely fascinated by all things wheeled, and the bigger the better! This book has great, colourful photographs, and the best part (for toddler, anyway) is that each page comes with a button that makes fun truck noises. Fortunately for us, the buttons are a bit finicky and you need to push them pretty hard to make them work, which means my little toddler can’t press them without mummy’s help. 😉

If I Were a Dog – The other great love in my toddler’s life (beyond trucks) is dogs – oh, does this little boy love dogs! He smiles and points and squeals with delight every time a dog crosses his path, though he always keeps a respectful distance. Of course I had to pick up this colourful book, with its bright, adorable doggy illustrations. Since mummy and daddy both have terrible dog allergies, this is probably going to be the closest he’s going to be to having a dog.
