Poetry Friday : Ouch, Ouch, Ouch!

Happy Friday, friends! We’ve made it through another week! How is everyone doing? I’m very, very happy to be out here on the west coast right now, sure I’m starting to grow some moss after all the rain, but those subzero temperatures you’ve been having out east are just too much for me!

Today’s poem is another case of life inspiring art. I seriously pulled a muscle on Tuesday, in the most embarrassing way possible. I sneezed. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I was walking to a library, on my way to deliver a program, when I sneezed an epic sneeze, heard something literally go POP in my side, started seeing stars and doubled over in pain. Friends, it was awful! I managed to stagger up the street to a pharmacy where I picked up some painkillers, and somehow powered my way through my program. I’m no quitter, friends! Though I did have to recruit a coworker to help me gather supplies, because there was no way I was picking up anything in that state. Thankfully it was a very low-key program that allowed me to sit in a chair like a statue while the kids worked on their projects – phew!

An actual photo of me hobbling my way down the street.

Anyway, enough of my sad, sad story – on to the poetry! Today I give you an ode to my poor strained muscle in haiku form.

Ah-Tchoo! goes the nose

POP POP POP goes the muscle

Ouch! Ouch! goes the Jane

I hope everyone’s having a healthy, happy week – be careful when you’re out shovelling that snow!

Sorry to hear about the muscle sprain. I’m known for my epic sneezes, which are even more frequent these days because of a cold and colder weather.

Glad you could still give your program! I tripped on a cat and fractured my tailbone once…it seems like we never have good stories for the injuries!

Ouch! I have done damage through coughing, but not sneezing. I think both would be very painful. Clever putting this into a haiku!

Oh, noooo! Sorry about that pulled muscled. I’ve done the same…but it was my back. Had to go to the ER for a shot of painkillers. All from a sneeze. Be gentle on those muscles….feed them, hydrate and rest them too.
Great way of working a painful moment into a poem though!

Yikes! This post is a reminder that all manner of fortunes can change in the time it takes to sneeze!

Well your a real trooper Jane to pull through your program with the pain and all. At least the pain gave you something in return, your lovely Ode. Hope you are feeling better soon
