Holiday Shopping Made Easy!

Struggling to decide what to buy for the little ones in your life this holiday season? Well, worry no more, because I’ve solved your shopping woes! Well, not me, really, so much as the brilliant minds behind these book lists. Any title on these lists would make a fantastic gift for a young reader.

IBBY

IBBY Canada has put together From Sea to Sea to Sea, an incredible catalogue of “100 recommended picture books by Indigenous authors, many illustrated by Indigenous artists, published in Canada over the last 25 years and currently in print.” Many different indigenous groups and languages are represented, and the list includes books for a wide range of ages, from board book for babies to more complex picture books for older children.

perfectpresents

If you’re looking to shop for a wider age range, the Vancouver Public Library has put together their yearly “Perfect Presents” list, which has been conveniently divided into the following sections for your shopping pleasure – Under 7 years; Ages 7 and up; and Teen. The titles are all Canadian (in some way – author, illustrator, content and/or publisher), recent, and every title is librarian-approved!

Best Books of 2018

The New York Public Library has also released their “Best Books of 2018” list, which covers books for kids, teens and adults, making it a one-and-done stop for all your book-buying needs!

bookstore

Now that you’re armed with your handy shopping lists, why not consider skipping the online mega-stores and supporting your local independent bookstores, instead? Don’t know where your nearest local bookstore is? IndieBound can help (I swear I am not sponsored in any way, I just really like supporting independent stores)! You can search by zip code to find independent bookstores in your area.

So get out there and get shopping, and don’t say I never do nuthin’ for you! Happy holidays!

Thank you for this post I am fwding it to the grandparents, they have been asking and you have some great suggestions here! For your next list may I suggest adding the Benjamin Birdie Series by Michael Dotsikas! This has been the latest hit in our house! I love them because they are educational with awesome social lessons and my kiddos are in love with the characters and awesome illustrations. I found them on amazon but I read more about the author here: http://www.michaeldotsikas.com
